General

  1. How do I add my personal notes throughout the ebook?
  2. Right click on content to which you want to add notes and choose 'add notes' from the option list. You can check for these notes in the 'My notes' segment in your 'My Folder' page.
  3. How do I bookmark a page?
  4. The top panel in the reader has the Bookmark option. Clicking on it will bookmark the page being currently viewed. You can check for the pages that have been bookmarked in the 'My Bookmarks' segment in your 'My Folder' page.
  5. How do I use the search option?
  6. Type a search term or phrase in the search text box and click on ‘Go’ to search the ebook content. Your search results will appear in a column on the right-hand side of the page. Specific search terms usually result in more targeted results.
    Note: The search option is disabled when viewing the book in the full-screen mode.
  7. How am I charged for my purchase?
  8. A charge will appear on your credit card statement under the name eBook Sale for the purchase of your ebook(s). You will not receive a confirmation; the ebook will be immediately available. CAP ebook purchases are nonrefundable.

  9. Is the transaction secure?
  10. Yes, iPublishCentral uses Paypal for all ecommerce transactions. Customers make payments on the CAP ebooks site using their credit cards. The site passes on the credit card details to Paypal for processing and, on successful acknowledgement, grants access to the content. The credit card information is not stored on Impelsys servers at any point of time. Paypal is PCI compliant, making this solution secure, and anyone who has access to the Impelsys database will not be able to access any credit card information.

  11. Can I preview the ebook contents?
  12. All CAP ebooks have the table of contents available through ViewInside. Click the ViewInside button for a preview of the contents. Note: the format of the contents is different in ViewInside (it is a PDF of the print version of the book) than in the actual ebooks, which are in EPUB format.

  13. What is an ebook?
  14. An ebook (short for electronic book) is an e-text that forms the digital media equivalent of a conventional printed book, often restricted with a digital rights management system. Our ebooks are electronic versions of the printed book which can be read on a personal computer or other devices that support Adobe's Flash Player.

Features

  1. What features are available for CAP ebooks?
    • Search:  CAP ebooks are searchable. You can search within an ebook or across your ebook library. 
    • Customize:  You can highlight text on the screen; bookmark pages; or add notes throughout the ebook. You can also change the font size and the color theme of the ebook.
    • Easy Navigation: In addition to accessing books from your Bookshelf, your notes, bookmarks, and highlights become part of your dashboard and quick links.
    • Online and Offline Reading: CAP ebooks can be read online through the CAP ebooks website or offline through a reader app (iPublishCentral Reader for PC/Mac; CAP ebooks reader app for iPad).

Access

  1. I’ve purchased an ebook. How do I read it?
  2. Once you purchase an ebook, it will appear in your Bookshelf.

    To access the content, click on the symbol next to “Online Reading Options.” This will open the ebook for online reading. You can read your ebooks online on most devices connected to the Internet through a web browser with the Flash player installed (see “Technical Information” below).

  3. How do I download the ebook to my computer?

    The iPublishCentral Reader is a software program that, after a one-time installation onto your computer, allows you to download, store, and read any book from the CAP ebooks store when offline. The iPublishCentral Reader is built on Adobe Air, which will also be installed during the initial installation process.

    Once you login to the CAP ebooks site using your account, you will notice a button “Download iPublishCentral Reader.” 


    Click on the download button to go to the installation page. Click on “Install Now” to set up iPublishCentral reader on your system.

     

    The first time you launch the Reader, the following message will be displayed: “No books have been downloaded to the bookshelf.” Click the Login button at the upper right corner of the screen.

    Select Normal User.

    • Enter the CAP ebooks URL in the Site URL field: http://ebooks.CAP.org/.
    • Use your registered login credentials to log in to iPublishCentral Reader.
    • Enter your CAP eBooks username in the Username field.
    • Enter your password in the Password field.
    • Click the Sign In button.
    • Once your account details are verified, the contents of your Bookshelf will be made available on the Reader.
    • Click on individual ebooks to download them to the Reader.
    • Click on the ebook to read.
  5. Can I access my book without access to the Internet (ie, offline)?
  6. Yes. On your computer, simply download the iPublishCentral Reader software package (free) and open the ebook using this software. On your iPad, download the CAP ebooks app from iTunes and log in to access your bookshelf and download purchased ebooks. You can then view the books anytime. At this time, CAP ebooks cannot be downloaded to Android devices for offline reading (although most would support online reading through a browser).

  7. Will the ebook reader work on a PC or a Mac?
  8. iPublishCentral Reader works on both PC and Mac.  You must download the CAP eBooks iPad app from iTunes to download CAP ebooks to your iPad.  

  9. Can I purchase ebooks from within the CAP ebooks iPad app?
  10. No. There are no in-app purchases for CAP ebooks. You must return to the CAP ebooks store (ebooks.CAP.org) to purchase additional titles.

  11. Is my ebook accessible to me immediately after purchase?

  12. Yes. When you purchase a CAP ebook at the CAP ebooks store (ebooks.CAP.org), it will be available in your Bookshelf for online reading through the portal. Once you sync your CAP ebooks app with your purchase, the book will be available for download to your iPad.

  13. How do I access my ebooks on my iPad?
  14. To read eBooks on iPad, follow below steps:
    1. Download the iOS app from the App store : https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/cap-ebooks/id891566993?mt=8
    2. Please login using your registered credentials from the "Account" tab at top left hand corner.
    3. Then, tap on the "Close" button to close the "Account" window.
    4. Next, please tap on "My Bookshelf" tab at the bottom of the iPad app.
    5. Here, your purchased eBook(s) will appear to be grayed out.
    6. Please tap on the eBook, it will start downloading to the "My Bookshelf" in the app.
    7. Once it is downloaded, tap on the eBook to read it.


  15. How do I redeem an Access Code?

    Access code redemption and purchases can only be done through the CAP ebooks store (through a browser on a PC, Mac, or tablet)—not through the CAP ebooks reader app.


    STEP 1. Go to the CAP ebooks store (ebooks.cap.org). If you already have an account, simply log in with your CAP ebooks username and password. If you have not registered, click “Sign Up

    STEP 2. Once you are successfully logged in, you will be redirected to your Bookshelf. There is also a Bookshelf link at the top of the page. Once you are on the Bookshelf page, click the Redeem Access Code button.

     

     

    STEP 3. Enter your access code in the Redeem Access Code field. (Do not include any spaces. Letters in the code should be capitalized.) Click the Redeem button and the appropriate ebooks will be placed on your Bookshelf.

     

     

Account Information

  1. Why does my CAP login information not work when logging into the CAP ebook store?
  2. Your CAP account is not linked to the CAP ebooks store. You will need to create a separate account in order to purchase ebooks. You are free to use the same username and password as your cap.org account, or you can create unique credentials for the CAP ebooks site.

  3. How do I change my password?
  4. Click on the "My Folder" link and choose the "Profile Setting" option, from the drop down list choose "Change Password," enter a new password, and click "OK." Your password will be reset to the new password.

  5. I already own the printed version. Does this give me access to the ebook?
  6. No. CAP ebooks are a separate product and as such must be purchased separately.

  7. What is the return policy on an ebook?
  8. eBooks cannot be returned.  Once an ebook is purchased, the sale is considered to be final.

  9. How can I order a print book?
  10. Print books can be purchased through the College of American Pathologists (CAP) website. Go to www.cap.org/cappress and select “Purchase a print book.” To purchase a print book, you will need to either create an account or log in with your existing cap.org account.

  11. Can institutions purchase CAP ebooks?
  12. Yes. Institutions such as libraries, hospitals, and practices can subscribe to the entire CAP ebooks collection by contacting libraries@impelsys.com. Or select the “For Institutions” tab on the CAP ebooks store and click on “Request for Information.” Collection subscribers will automatically receive updates as soon as they are published to the CAP ebooks site.

  13. I’m a CAP member. Do I get a member discount on CAP ebooks?
  14. All CAP ebooks are priced about 30% off the list price of the print version, so the “member discount” is built in.

  2. If you have any queries or need help, or wish to send us any feedback, please send an email to cap.support@ipublishcentral.com. Generally a response should be received within 24 hours.

  3. What format are the ebooks in? *IMPORTANT*
    • CAP ebooks are encrypted EPUB files that can be accessed online through a browser on any PC/Mac. 
    • You can download the ebooks using the iPublishCentral Reader on to your PC/Mac.
    • You can download the ebooks on to an iPad using CAP ebooks iPad app. 
    • ebooks purchased through the CAP ebook site cannot be downloaded as a file onto any device, and you cannot use a third-party application to read these ebooks.
    • CAP ebooks cannot be downloaded/copied on to a pen/thumb drive.
    • CAP ebooks cannot be accessed on e-Ink–based readers like Kindle/Nook/Kobo/Sony eReader/etc.
    • ebooks subscribed through CAP ebook store cannot be read on iBookstore or any other third-party readers such as Stanza, Mobipocket Reader, Barnes and Noble eReader, The Microsoft Reader, Kindle for PC, etc.

  4. What are the technical requirements for CAP ebooks?
  5. Online viewing: Computer or device with Internet connection and current web browser:

    • Internet Explorer: Version 6.0, 7.0, 8.0

    • Firefox: Version 3.0 & up

    • Google Chrome: Version 2.0 & up

    • Safari: Version 3.0 & up

    • For full functionality, Flash Version 9 & up

    Offline viewing:

    • PC or Mac: Download iPublishCentral Reader from the My Bookshelf page of the CAP ebooks store.

    • iPad: Download CAP ebooks free App available through iTunes.

    • Android tablets: Download CAP ebooks free App available through Google Playstore.
